First day of sixth grade for my daughter was 8/27/2012. I haven't cried yet, but I can feel it coming. She came home, enthusiastic as ever, and says, "MOM! YOU have homework." -----
WhatTheFahay? Uhm, well, ok. My assignment was given by her art teacher. Titled "In a million words or less". Basically, a bio about my child so the teacher can get to know her students better. I think it's a pretty cute, and insane idea. Seriously, this teacher must have at LEAST 100 students a day. Bless her heart, she's still a young teacher who is not yet jaded by the teaching profession. I am ever so grateful for that. So I decided to share my "essay".
Autumn , In a
Million Words or Less…….
As told by, her
lovely mother, Pamela
A million words or less, those are
big shoes to fill. Honestly, I can tell you Autumn is an AMAZING child. She is
intelligent, enthusiastic (some call it being a bit “dramatic”), athletic,
creative (she gets that from me), passionate, caring, and friendly. Autumn can
tend to lean (slightly) to the lazy side, especially if she is participating
(or not) in something she really has no interest in doing. For example –
cleaning her room; doing dishes; homework; and math. I will tell you, Autumn is
an incredibly strong child. Strong- emotionally, mentally, and physically.
By age
8, Autumn lived through being born to teenage parents, who strived to make a
better life for her. Autumn lived in poverty most of her life, but SHE never
knew it. She was always happy, had what she wanted/needed and never expected
more. Her world changed at 8, when her parents divorced. Through great
counseling she made it out as perfect as she was before. Then, a year later she
became a big sister. After almost 9 years of being an only child, Autumn became
a very self-sacrificing big sister. Then she was blessed with a whole new
family and became a big sister to TWO more little boys. (The self-sacrificing
became a little thinner by then). So
this small, innocent child has gone through so much in such a small amount of
life, she is my strong hero.
Autumn
expresses herself artistically. That’s the good stuff we wanted to get into.
She loves to draw. Be it with pencil, pen, markers, crayons, or colored
pencils. She will draw and doodle all day long, if school and home stuff would
stop interrupting her. She is an amazing artist! I am seriously amazed at some
of her drawings. For a good while there, I honestly thought she was tracing
pictures and claiming them as her own. (We all did that didn’t we?). Yet, she
was REALLY drawing free hand. Autumn loves to read about artists, and see art
work, and learn new techniques. Thanks to the internet, she has really grown
artistically. I look forward to seeing the wonderful artwork that will come
home this school year.
I thank
you, for being a teacher and being HER teacher. Even though we haven’t met, I
already know I like you. Through YOU, my daughter will grow and learn.
